Flipper’s Guitar has left a lasting and deep impression on Japan’s musical scene, and has gained a sort of legendary and mythic status, now celebrated in with tribute albums and compilations dedicated to it, the band started the successful careers of both Cornelius and Ozawa’s and also spawned many imitators.
While still in junior high school, Oyamada Keigo (aka Cornelius) formed a band called “Lollipop Sonic” with Ozawa Kenji, Yoshida Shusaku, Arakawa Yasunobu, and Inoue Yukiko. After the breakup of the band, Oyamada formed Flipper’s Guitar a year later with Ozawa.
In 1991, Flipper’s Guitar would break up after a mere 3 years, but 3 very productive years.
