Some dismiss Kahimi Karie as a talentless muse, others revere her unique style and French leanings. Either way, Kahimi Karie is one of Japan's most successful artists abroad.
It was Oyamada Keigo(aka Cornelius) who began Kahimi's musical career, while dating Kahimi, by asking her to sing for a house band. Her Franco-phile style and breathy, almost whispered vocal delivery became an inspiration for many other Japanese bands. The musical backing was a loungy hybrid of sounds that became known as Shibuya-kei.
Despite breaking-up with Cornelius, Kahimi continued to make records and albums, but has followed her love of France all the way to the source, and currently lives and works in the Montmarte neighborhood of Paris.
Her most recent works are more and more musically experimental.
