Originally a side-project from Boredoms drummer Yoshimi, OOIOO features her this time on guitar with 3 other women, creating a kind of trance-inducing loop and effects-based psychedelia.
Beneath the primal, tribal drumming and chanting, and the swirling, hypnotic guitar work there is a certain accessibility and spirituality, very different from the anarchist bent of the Boredoms.
What originally began as a side-project is now threatening to overtake the Boredoms in terms of popularity abroad. The band is also paving the way for the latest Boredoms work which, after having spent its creative juices, now seems to be following the lead set by this band.
