Puffy were the inspiration/model for many later female bands. Among those heavily influenced include Halkali whose band would be completely without ideas were it not for the pioneering work of Puffy. Puffy is/was the female duo, affectionately called Ami-chan and Yumi-chan by their fans.
The duo was known for their synchronized dances, and their sing-a-long karaoke indie-pop, with the two girls characteristic vocal harmonies(they just sang the same thing at the same time). The group achieved major stardom in the late 1990s with their catchy songs, cute and harmless looks, and whacky onstage performances. But they were equally famous for their off-stage antics. Ami-chan married the lead vocalist for the famous Japanese band Glay, and Yumi-chan went on to marry but then divorce the singer from TMRevolution.
Check out the band that inspired so many other Japanese bands. Especially recommended is their "Best-of" album.
